You may have checked it twice, but at Texas Foot Specialists we want to know if your feet made your holiday gift list. Let’s face it, these hard-working structures are what get you through this busy season! It’s not too late to show your gratitude with a present for your feet. Below are some ideas your feet would put on their wish list if they could talk.

Custom Orthotic—shoe inserts that are custom made to fit your unique foot can allow you to stand and walk more comfortably and with less pain. Custom orthotics are designed to correct an abnormal walking pattern or biomechanical problem and are often prescribed for plantar fasciitis, diabetes, flat feet, arthritis and deformities such as bunions and hammertoes. If you experience pain and discomfort from one of these disorders, make an appointment at our Sugar Land (281-242-4448), Pasadena (281-991-0600) or Houston (713-664-6677) office and let our podiatrists, Dr. Bruce Miller and Dr. Gregory Mangum examine your foot and see if an orthotic can help you.

New Sport Shoes—if you exercise regularly, you should replace your shoes at specified intervals. Walking or running shoes should be replaced after 300-500 miles of wear and sports. Basketball, tennis and workout shoes will last 45-60 hours. Other signs it’s time for new sports shoes include uneven appearance when placed on a flat surface, heel counters that don’t hold firm or the ability to bend a shoe in half. Playing in worn-out shoes can cause injury and foot pain.

Foot Massage—nothing feels better on sore, tired feet than a professional foot massage. The ancient Chinese practice of Reflexology is thought to have the ability to improve the health of other parts of your body as well, with each section of your foot corresponding to another body system or part. Just be sure the salon you choose is reputable and licensed by the state health or cosmetology dept.

Anti-Fatigue Mat—do you have a job that requires long hours of standing in one place? At the end of the day do you find your feet hurting when you stand in front of the sink doing the dinner dishes? If so, your feet would probably appreciate a thick, anti-fatigue mat specially designed to reduce stress and strain.

Of course, the best gift of all for your feet is the gift of good health. If you’ve been putting off getting foot pain checked because of your hectic holiday schedule, don’t delay any longer. Contact us today to get your feet evaluated.
