Keeping Your Child’s Feet Healthy

A child’s smelly feet is just one of the many challenges that parents have to hurdle when raising their children. But this is something that parents have to endure. Treatments for smelly feet are available and preventing them is a matter of teaching proper hygiene.

The leading cause of foul-smelling feet is bacteria. So a simple anti-bacterial soap could help prevent this problem.  Alternating shoes and wearing fresh socks daily is also a good way of turning away bad smelling feet.

The problem is more common among men mainly because of two reasons. Men have more sweat glands and physically more active. Shoes should be washed regularly and parents should make sure that this fit their feet perfectly. For those with stubborn smelly feet, a topical antiperspirant is advised. But if these tips fail to stop smelly feet consult with a podiatrist.

Healthy Feet for children

Our body undergoes many changes during our childhood years. And ensuring that our feet matures properly should be included in our priority. Just because it is always hidden away from the eyes doesn’t mean it should not get the same love and attention.

Foot care should start as early as possible and this should begin with babies.

-        Give your baby’s feet space to grow, let them move their feet freely.

-        Avoid using tight-fitting shoes or socks as this might interfere with normal feet growth.

As children become more physically active, so does the demands on their growing feet. Babies for example may wobble when learning how to walk but this is normal. Just be sure that you let them learn how to walk in a safe environment to avoid accidents.

The importance of living healthy should be thought to our kids. This makes it easier for them to grow into healthy productive members of society. Proper foot care includes:

-        Wear proper fitting shoes. Wearing the recommended shoes for the activity they are joining.

-        Preventing fungal and bacterial infections to avoid smelly feet

-        Reporting pain or signs of swelling immediately

-        Having their feet checked during regular visits to the doctor
